We believe that our music provision should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.

Intent 

Curriculum design, coverage and appropriateness 

Our intent is to ensure that children have a high-quality music education which engages and inspires pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.

Assessment (formative and summative)  

We implement music through: 

•In EYFS the children have daily singing opportunities and we provide instruments both inside and in the outdoor area to allow children to create and explore both independently and with adult focus. 

•Teaching focuses on the children developing vocal expression, singing and the playing of instruments. Children listen to a range of music and are encouraged to use technical vocabularyChildren are taught to play and sing with confidence and control. We provide lessons to develop aural memory and to broaden understanding of different styles of music. 

Formative assessment at the end of a lesson is used to inform planning and ensure the National Curriculum objectives are being taught.  

•All children have the opportunity to access music lessons with a specialist music teacher and we provide afterschool provision to develop singing. 

Impact 

Attainment and progress (including national tests and assessments) 

The impact of our Music curriculum is children: 

•Are engaged and enthused by a wide variety of music activities and inspired to further develop their strengths and interests.  

 Are provided with opportunities to perform outside of school and within our local environment to ensure our children understand its significance and place within the wider world and that these excite and inspire children’s thirst for knowledge and participation in this subject.
