UPDATE! All pupils achieved Arts Award Discover in summer 2021. We are now working towards Arts Award Explore.
All the pupils of Castleton School are currently working towards Arts Award Discover, kindly supported by staff from West Cliff Primary. This is an introductory level to the Arts which allows the children to learn about a wide range of arts through participating in activities, researching artists and sharing their discoveries with each other.
The Acorns (age 4 – 7) have been on an arts hunt around the school grounds to identify art forms. Their music sessions are based around a Kenyan theme, where they have been discovering and learning a folk song and finding out about the artist, David Nzomo, who created it. The children will also find out about the Maasai tribe and learn how they dance. The Oaks (age 7 – 11) have been researching different art forms and making records of their findings in their very own log books. They will also be researching an art form or artist of their choice and producing something in the style of their chosen artist.
The final stage of the award will involve all children coming together to celebrate their discoveries with each other. Oak class will also be writing reflections about what they have learned in their log books. On completion and submission, all children will receive an Arts Award Discover certificate from Trinity College, London.
