The teaching team in Class Two is made up of Miss Nolan, who is teaching whilst Mrs Grace is on maternity leave, and Mr Wadley.
As a mixed-age class from age 7 to 11 years, we strive to work together, share great learning and experience the highs and lows as a collective unit.
Maths is taught to two year-groups at a time with Miss Nolan whilst the other two classes practise key fluency skills like mental maths skills, times table recall and key spellings.
Class Two alternate their spelling and times table tests each week so fluency practise is an important part of the day.
English is spent together, focusing on a mix of grammar, process for writing and text type learning in order to provide them by year 6 with a varied knowledge bank of writing types. Whole class guided reading takes place across the week during afternoon sessions. Children use the VIPERS structure to answer questions based on vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and summarising or structures of texts. These were also provided on bookmarks for each year group.
Class Two have jam-packed afternoons which vary from day-to-day, week-to-week and term-to-term. During Spring half term 2, the focus is on geography and DT as well as PSHE and PE. Children have the chance to participate in Forest Schools provision with Mrs Barber on a rolling rota; this half term, year 3 are enjoying this provision.
Our Spring topic is Can you make a giant leap for humankind? The homework tasks which were completed before the half term were impressive and a generous number of team points were awarded to recognise such fantastic work. We hope to be just as surprised and delighted by the projects for this half term.
