Oak Class (Key Stage 2)
As we progress through the school, we move from Acorns to Oaks.
As a mixed-age class from age 7 to 11 years, we strive to work together, share great learning and experience the highs and lows as a collective unit.
Maths is taught to two year-groups at a time with Mr Sellers, whilst the other two year groups practise key fluency skills like mental maths skills, times table recall and key spellings.
English is spent together, focusing on a mix of grammar, process for writing and text type learning in order to provide them by year 6 with a varied knowledge bank of writing types. Whole class guided reading takes place across the week during afternoon sessions. Children use the VIPERS structure to answer questions based on vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and summarising or structures of texts.
Oak class have jam-packed afternoons which vary from day-to-day, week-to-week and term-to-term. We enjoy weekly outdoor learning sessions, making the most of our extensive school grounds and local woodland.
